Amanda Samuel (she/he/they)

Facilitator

Amanda Samuel (she/he/they) is a queer butch woman from Wisconsin who grew up in Indian Pentecostal and white evangelical faith tradition. As an adult, she has found a spiritual home in the Presbyterian tradition and is now pursuing ordination in the PC(USA). Amanda currently serves as the Pastoral Associate for Community Life at City Church San Francisco where she facilitates opportunities for care and connection within the congregation and for the city. She has a Master of Divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary, with concentrations in public theology, gender, and sexuality. During her time in seminary, Amanda worked as a chaplain in a women's prison, a community hospital, and a Presbyterian college ministry. Amanda is interested in learning about and living out theologies that are loving, life-giving, and liberating. She believes biblical literacy is political and is curious about how our ideas about God impact how we understand and engage with the world. In her work, Amanda hopes to create spaces for a theological imagination that works towards the common good and leads us to deeper friendship with each other, the world around us, the Divine, and our own selves.
