Compassionate ministry for and with older adults

Fall Speakers

Elizabeth Conde-Frazier

The Rev. Dr. Elizabeth Conde Frazier is a practical theologian. She is an ordained pastor of the American Baptist Churches with over ten years of pastoral experience. She was the founder of the Orlando E. Costas Hispanic and Latin American Ministries Program at Andover Newton Theological School, served as Associate Professor in Religious Education at Claremont School of Theology, as Academic Dean and Vice President of Education at Esperanza College of Eastern University and as the director for the Association for Hispanic Theological Education. Some of her publications are: Atando Cabos: Latinx Contributions to Theological Education, Latina Evangelicas: A Theological Survey from the Margins, A Many Colored Kingdom, Hispanic Biblical Institutes, Listening to the Children: Conversations with Immigrant Families, Atando Cabos: Latinx Contributions to Theological Education and numerous chapters on practical theology, scholarly spirituality, and religious education. Dr. Conde-Frazier has a Ph.D. from Boston College, an M.Div. from Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary and a B.A. from Brooklyn College, City University of New York.

Zina Jacque

Instructor

Rev. Zina Jacque, PhD, has had two vocations that find common ground in serving others and sending good into the world. For twenty years , Dr. Jacque served colleges and universities as a student services professional. Following that chapter of her life, Dr. Jacque answered her call to ministry, adding an MDiv and a PhD in theology from Boston University to her academic degrees. Subsequently she served on the staffs of urban and suburban, small and mega churches, completing her church-based tenure with the historic Alfred Street Baptist Church. Currently Dr. Jacque is President and Chair of the board of National Senior Communities, the largest portfolio of not-for-profit continuing-care retirement communities. Dr. Jacque was one of three co-founders and host for Courageous Conversations (www.courageousconversations.us). Through this dialogue series, participants worked to create communities of inclusion and belonging, in the midst of an otherwise polarized world. This trailblazer and change agent is described as a voice of hope, a source of grace, and a person of faith. However, what she wants you to know is that her signature verse is John 15:16, “You did not choose me, but I chose you and ordained that you go forward to bear fruit, fruit that will remain," and that she is grateful to be a sinner saved by grace.

Don Ng

Panelist

Rev. Donald Ng is "Baptist by birth" at the First Baptist Church in Boston, MA. (Thus, he is also a lifelong fan of the Red Sox!) After retiring as senior pastor from the First Chinese Baptist Church in San Francisco, Don continues his Baptist life serving on the boards of the American Baptist Historical Society, the American Baptist Foundation, Andover Newton Seminary at Yale Divinity School, and the Friends of North East Christian University in India. Don has said, “If it wasn’t for First Baptist, Boston, I literally wouldn’t be here today.” Come find out why!

It is now 4/6 and reviewing the recording was quite impressive with the engagement, myth busting and the longevity of the "Coffee Chat" model. The sense of developing a community, a common sanctuary, ability and willingness to share across different churches/township locations is powerful. The incorporation of topics from words, to poets, to song, and 'new things' has an adventuresome and novel curiosity element, but also fun and creative. The logistics of a email the Friday prior to a gathering +/- and a simple 'assignment' to prime the discussion pump. Mention of Rev Palen's slides about the Coffee Chat, I will check around the ABHMS sight, as I would love to download. The time frame of 20-30 min was amazing. Albeit the planning give a hint to Rev. Palen joy of evoking the program. Very impressive. Thanks, will try too catch up... Boyd Myers Baptist Church of West Chester.
