Instructor

Michelle Nickens

Rev. Michelle Nickens (pastor, author, activist, and artist) uses storytelling and the creative imagination as instruments of healing and empowerment for all people in the church, especially those who have experienced religious trauma or oppression. Her lectures at educational and faith institutions include Womanist Theology; Domestic Violence, Child Sexual Abuse; George Floyd & Juneteenth; and the Theology of Resistance in African American Artistic Culture. She is the pastor of Washington Plaza Baptist Church in Reston, VA and a former Teaching Fellow and Instructor at Union Theological Seminary in the City of New York.
